Hand Washing Compliance

Proper hand sanitization is the largest contributing factor of HAIs. Yet hand washing compliance rarely exceeds 40%, even in intensive care units, due to lack of time and concerns of skin irritation.

Death Toll

Over 100,000 deaths each year result from the 1.7 million HAIs acquired in the United States. Compared to the ~80,000 deaths per year from Diabetes, the 7th leading cause of death.

Medical Costs

Over $30,000,000,000 in additional medical costs in the United States are incurred by HAIs.

The problem with traditional sanitizers

Most soaps, gels, and foams are not recognized as safe or effective by the FDA for clinical use and can cause problems such as skin absorption and irritations. Most all of these products suffer from a lack of long-term safety data collected from healthcare workers. Alcohol based sanitizers don’t kill all pathogens and present mental stresses for workers who would rather stay away from alcohol in general. Not without mentioning, Antibiotics and Alcohols have been linked to the creation of Pathogen Resistance.
